U.S. surgeon general: handwashing & social distancing

March 4, 2020

Amber Strong of Newsy  interviewed U.S. surgeon general, Dr. Jerome Adams about the coronavirus, COVID-19. As we have been educating legislators and the public, vaccines did not save us from past infectious disease outbreaks, good hygienic practices and social-distancing did. While vaccines have played a role in reducing the visibility and incidence of some infections, they are incapable of eradication, and mass use of them has led to severe unintended health consequences, much like the over-use of antibiotics.

“What I want Americans to know is when we look back at past infectious disease outbreaks like this, they weren’t ended with therapeutics or with vaccines. They ended with hand washing, they were ended with social distancing. They were ended with the basic public health and hygiene measures that keep us safe from the flu and the everyday cold and will also keep us safe from coronavirus.”

Stay healthy, stay safe.  For advice from Dr. Michael Breneman on healthy immunity practices, tune in Friday, March 6, 8am to Lift Your Spirits Radio on 1150 AM KKNW in Seattle. The show is also available streaming live-online, and via podcast.
