Here’s the meeting packet you can search for the term “Purple Crying,” which appears on p. 28 of 47.

Highlights:
 WIC’s authorized caseload increased from 620 to 640.
 The NFP team hosted a birth workers community gathering this month; doula care is now
a Medicaid supported service and there is a high need for collaboration amongst
community partners to increase accessibility to this service.
Childcare Consultant provided education on infant milestones and the Period of Purple Crying during the 2 contracted visits.
 ABCD registered 1 new dentist and 2 dental hygienists for ABCD certification training,
increasing the number of Certified Dental Providers we will have.
 Secured funding for another firearm safety event through Seattle King County and an
ongoing firearm safe locking program through Seattle Children’s.

My testimony:

Good afternoon, Chair Smith and members of the Board, Lisa Templeton from Informed Choice Washington calling from King County.
I’d like to say something about the Period of Purple Crying that appears on today’s agenda.  Cleveland Clinic describes Purple Crying as normal developmental phase in which your baby cries uncontrollably, possibly including persistent, high-pitched screaming for long periods of time. No matter what you do, nothing seems to soothe her.

Members, this description matches that given by countless parents regarding their little babies and toddlers following vaccination. Did you know that many known adverse effects of these products, set forth in the manufacturers’ package inserts, would cause a baby to scream like this? These known effects include inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, as well as brain dysfunction. In fact, some of the package inserts actually list persistent, inconsolable crying! Teaching parents that so-called “Purple Crying” across the board is a “normal developmental phase” is disingenuous at best.

It is so important that the Community and Family Health Department share this information with parents! I’m not saying that every inconsolable baby is suffering a vaccine injury, but this possibility must be considered in order to be able to treat the baby promptly in order to mitigate damage, to report the injury to VAERS, and to prevent further harm that additional shots could cause the child.

Isn’t it the responsibility of public health to take the lead in alerting parents to this possibility? Could it be that forthright disclosure of potential risks is avoided because if people knew the truth, it could jeopardize the vaccination program?

The CDC’s September 26 MMWR stated that the percentage of 2-year olds in the US who have received zero vaccines is only 1.8%. In October, CDC reported that 3.3% of kindergartners nationwide use exemptions. This ratio shows that 2/3 of exemption users have used vaccines. If vaccinating is only a positive experience, the exemption rate should only equal the rate of students with no vaccines, not higher. This indicates that something is happening causing pro-vax parents to move away from the program. Injury from the products is one reason.
I urge you to please look into revising the messaging that CDHD’s Community and Family Health is giving uninformed and trusting parents regarding possible reasons for their babies’ inconsolable screaming. Thank you for hearing and pondering my thoughts.
